A Celebration 25 Years in the Making

As you may know, FAS turned 25 this year. Throughout our 25th year, you will be hearing from some of our staff, clients and friends in the higher education community. Each will share their perspective on working with FAS and how both the organization and the financial aid profession have changed over the past quarter of a century. What started on our Founders’ kitchen table has grown to serve nearly 1,200 colleges and universities.

Much has changed in 25 years. In 1991…

  • There was no Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); it was created a year later in 1992

  • College costs at a 4-year public institution averaged $7,602

  • The average Pell Grant Award was $1,530

  • Lamar Alexander was the Secretary of Education; he is now a U.S. Senator from Tennessee

It is easy to see a universal thread throughout our history. The one thing which sets FAS apart is our experience. We have a staff averaging 26 years in the profession and nearly 1,900 engagements under our belt. For the anniversary year and beyond, our theme is…

Experience Matters!
