Shermain Reed

Shermain Reed has nearly 15 years of student financial aid experience. This includes working in four-year private, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and for-profit institution settings. Shermain came to FAS in 2023. As a consultant, she assists colleges and universities with Consulting and Assessment services.

Her career began as an enrollment advisor, and she then moved up the ranks, serving as a financial aid counselor, financial aid/default consultant, assistant director, and financial aid director. Before joining FAS, she held leadership positions in financial aid at Dallas Baptist University, Houston Christian University (formerly Houston Baptist University), and Washington Barber College.

Some of Shermain’s notable accomplishments were implementing and deploying Ellucian Colleague’s financial aid processing and student self-service modules. She also participated in the implementation and financial aid processing and awarding for online programs in an Ellucian Banner environment.

Her compliance strengths include successfully challenging a cohort default rate and auditing files for reimbursement payment requests under Heightened Cash Monitoring 2 (HCM2). Shermain led an institution through a successful Program Review by the U.S. Department of Education.

Student Information Systems (SIS) and financial aid software systems that Shermain has mastered include Ellucian Banner, Ellucian Colleague, Campus Logic (StudentForms, ClearCost, Campus Communicator), ElmOne (Private Loan Processing), and the Department of Education’s suite of applications and website for administering federal student aid.

Shermain was appointed as a financial aid commissioner with the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) and held committee roles with the Texas Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (TASFAA).

Shermain received her Bachelor of Social Work from Southern Arkansas University and Master of Science in College Student Personnel from Arkansas Tech University.
